There's a lot to consider when purchasing tires. Outside of the brand and type of tire, there's the condition: new or used. At Atlantic Tire, we only sell new tires. While a new tire dealer making the case for new tires isn't surprising, it is genuine. Used tires may cost less, but there are other factors you should look at when choosing your next set of tires. These include: the overall quality of the tire; the history of the tire; any warranties that come with the tire; and the safe performance of the tire.

The Quality of the Tire

Here's an expression you may have heard: "You should always invest in products that separate you from the ground, like shoes, beds, and tires." In other words, it's wise to invest in top quality products that contribute to your health and safety. With new tires, you know what you're getting and where they come from, while used tires involve a degree of risk and may not come with any guarantees, or often short ones if they do.

The Safe Performance of the Tire

Here's another expression you may know: "Where the rubber meets the road." This popular phrase is easy to hear without thinking too deeply on it. Did the tires come off a totaled vehicle or someone coming into the shop to sell them?

Tire Warranties & Guarantees

Most new tires come with a manufacturer's warranty in the event there is a defect, and many new tires include prorated mileage guarantees with (so long as you keep up on tire maintenance, which you should be doing). Some tire manufacturers even include perks like roadside assistance. With mileage warranties, it's easy to estimate how long your new tires will last based on how frequently you drive. In addition, you have peace of mind knowing you're guaranteed that amount of miles. With pre-owned tires, you don't know what to expect mileage-wise and you're out of luck in the event the tire doesn't last long. If you have to keep buying used tires because they don't last long, you'll eventually spend more time and money than you would purchasing a quality set of new tires.
